Ferry to Watsons Bay

A quiet morning on the beach The Gap
A cockatoo
Two very wet and very cold hikers
We set out with high hopes but woke up to rain. Since Chris had offered to stay home with the kids for his day off (Independence Day), we went anyway. We rode the bus to Circular Quay where we caught a ferry to Watson’s Bay. It was beautiful to be on the water, overlook the harbor, and watch the city skyline get a bit smaller. Watson’s Bay is a busy getaway in the summer, but on a cold winter day we shared it only with the brave and adventurous, of which we were a part. It’s a stunning lookout from at “The Gap”, a point that was mistaken for the harbor and caused the Dunbar to shipwreck in 1857 and 121 live were lost. It was also the welcome point for immigrants – once they arrived here they knew land and a new life was not far away. After a deliciously greasy takeaway of fish and chips at the famous Doyle's, we set sail back, drenched yet again in rain.
